This article about wedding speeches – control the audience is appealing for those interested about this topic.

Another important thing is that you have to control the audience you are talking to. Keep you eye contact with them. Keep looking at the audience from one end to another. This way you grab their attention. If you just stand still and read out from your paper then people will tend to lose interest and get back to their chit chats making you a flop show. Get some gestures, bring out the feeling in the words you are speaking and you have all the ears.

You should include some stories for the bridegroom with yourself. Better if they are little funny. But definitely not the kind of stories that might be embarrassing for the groom.  The stories might just be a medium but you should know what point you want to point and you should make to clear to all too. Not that you just speak to yourself and leave your audience in their own guesses.
